President Tinubu appoints ex-Benue Gov, George Akume, as SGF
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, June 2nd, 2023, appointed former Governor of Benue State and immediate past minister of special duties, George Akume as the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF).

George Akume (born 27 December 1953) is a Nigerian politician and was also a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. He was a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015. He was also the Governor of Benue State from May 1999 to May 2007. Under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), he was the first Governor to have completed two terms in office in Benue State.
Akume obtained a bachelor's degree in Sociology and a master's degree in Labour Relations from the University of Ibadan.
